SELF RELIANCE

Integrated Social Aid Network (INSAN) philosophy of sustainable development has following ingredients:
1) Sustainable development is not possible without integration of behavior development in technology development. We have faith that peace of life and afterlife can be achieved through living our lives according to laws of God. As Earth is bound to follow universal laws of physics, human who have freewill must follow universal laws of ethics.
2) Human conflicts, wars, clash of economic interest on the base of nationality must be eliminated and concept of  nation state must be replaced with united nations. So prejudices, corruption, greed, exploitation of human rights and injustice on the base of region, culture or groups affiliation, must be eliminated for sustainable development. These all evils must be replaced with love for human and nature.
3) Sustainable development couldn't be achieved without poverty alleviation. For us poverty alleviation is not limited to alleviate extreme poverty but it must be expended to right of every person to enjoy physical resources and technologies without harming nature and future. Natural and scientific blessings of God must be utilized in fair and clean way by everyone instead of a class of people.
4) Hands and legs are not inferior to brain or eyes. Everything in body has it unique importance. In same way every human on Earth is part of life and has it unique importance. There is no discrimination of inferior or superior human.
5) Biological needs of every human can be fulfilled if we stop consumerism and unnecessary spending to show that we are more honorable than other. This egoistic behavior is one of the basic cause of crime and abuse in society.

Life is easy. Why do we make it so hard?

SIMPLE LIVING

Simple living means: seeking a more just way to live with other people and environment. seeking a life of less tension, seeking a life where we more control over time, seeking a life which is not dictated by external forces, seeking a religious life directed more toward salvation than materialism.

CONSPICUOUS CONSUMPTION

Conspicuous consumption is a term introduced by the Norwegian-American economist and sociologist Thorsten Veblen in his book "The Theory of the Leisure Class" published in 1899. The term refers to consumers who buy expensive items to display wealth and income rather than to cover the real needs of the consumer.

IINSAN has development teachers who teach sustainable living. One basic element of sustainable development is a struggle for  true self  to bring it  in an existential state, where we  could act only for existence or survival of our and other's life with less wastage and pollution due to conspicuous consumption for social status based ceremonial living. What people have now is  the large families, slave workers and soldiers of industrialists to protect their circles for abusing people resources and sustainable environment. The more people earn the more they take. They develop false self of people through media for conspicuous consumption to pollute the environment and health. Their universities never teach about real freedom.
Integrated Social Network (INSAN) was founded by Shakil Ahmed Shah in 1991, with the help of some elders and young change agents, as a one room networking and social communication center to share appropriate knowledge for sustainable development including promotion of humility, kindness, moderation, purity, patience, generosity, forgiveness, honesty and struggle in society. INSAN worked to change those behaviors which result in egoistic abuse of other for conspicuous consumption and conspicuous leisure (these two terms introduced by the sociologist Thorstein Veblen in his book "The Theory of the Leisure Class" published in 1899). INSAN tried to change the illusionary psyche of people which motive them to gain honor in society instead of living healthy life. This illusionary psyche (to feel honor in conspicuous consumption e.g. buying expensive items or to feel honor in conspicuous leisure e.g. enjoying idleness on the expense of other) results in an unhealthy society where people abuse each other for material gain and produce crime, pollution and health problems. INSAN motivated people to adopt close to nature and sustainable ways of life with appropriate technologies instead of consumerism where industry produces unnecessary goods and through advertisements makes these goods our necessity. In 2006, INSAN was registered as a national level NGO under Societies Act 1860 and integrated livelihood component in its process of networking for sustainable living with the funding of Salvation Army as the leading donor and additional support from UNDP, IRC, NRC, WFP and IOM in earthquake affected area of District Mansehra. In 2011, INSAN included networking for disabilities and diseases management in its objectives with the funding of Leonard Cheshire Disability and USAID . In 2013, water related issues such as rainwater harvesting and environmental concerns were also included in its process of networking for sustainable living, in partnership with ERRA. In 2017 sexual and reproductive health Rights (SRHR) agenda was also included in the networking for sustainable living process with the support of Global Funds for Women.
